"Mystery" fish kill caused by algal bloom

The sudden death of hundreds of thousands of fish in Berkshire in March was due to "a combination of rare, natural phenomena", according to the Environment Agency. After a £100,000 investigation, it has concluded that the incident, which devastated a trout farm as well as a river and canal, was caused by compounds from an algal bloom which choked the gills of the fish.
