British Steel prepares for PRN era

British Steel has set up a unit to channel income from selling "packaging waste recovery notes" (PRNs) - the tradable certificates which show that recycling has taken place - into boosting steel recovery in local authority schemes. Meanwhile, a new definition of steel packaging to include bale wire and straps rather than just cans and drums has enabled the sector to double its claimed recycling rate.
