Well-aimed shots at Treasury by new Audit Committee

The House of Commons Environmental Audit Committee has thrown down the gauntlet to the Treasury in its first report.1 Going against Treasury policy, it has recommended the creation of a green tax commission to advise on environmental tax reform and a target for shifting the tax burden to environmental "bads", as well as a wider assessment of the environmental implications of each Budget than the Treasury has offered so far.
