New enforcement policy scraps deregulation rules

A cornerstone of the previous Government's policy to deregulate enforcement procedures is being removed. Controversial provisions allowing businesses the right to object to proposed enforcement actions by regulators are to be replaced by a new enforcement "concordat". The Environment Agency is already consulting on a revised enforcement and prosecution policy.
