Four-fold rise in plastics recycling targeted in study for DGXI

A cost-benefit study which found that recycling up to 36% of plastics waste could soon be financially and environmentally justifiable is likely to be used by the European Commission to push for higher recycling targets under the EC Directive on packaging. Meanwhile, data from the Association of Plastics Manufacturers in Europe (APME) show a slight fall in the European plastics waste recovery rate in 1996.
