Toxic sediments missed by official monitoring, researchers find

Official environmental monitoring is underestimating pollution by toxic compounds because it does not measure chemicals bound to particles and sediments, research by freshwater scientists has shown. Chemicals in sediments may still poison aquatic life and can redissolve in the water when sediments are disturbed during high flows.
