Industrial discharges linked to sex-change fish

Industrial discharges may be causing oestrogenic effects in estuarine fish, according to a Ministry of Agriculture (MAFF) scientist. Fish living in heavily industrialised estuaries were most likely to show effects, while those in areas receiving only sewage effluents were little affected. The findings suggest that industrial chemicals may be the most significant environmental oestrogens in estuarine and coastal areas.
