Environment Ministers fail again to agree waste shipment rules

The EC will go to the Earth Summit without having ratified the global Basel Convention on transfrontier waste shipments after Environment Ministers failed to agree the Community's own rules on waste traffic on 26 May. They did agree two Directives on ozone and the titanium dioxide industry, but were unable to come to any meaningful conclusions on the proposed carbon/energy tax and aid to developing countries.
