Car makers and Commission reach fuel efficiency agreement

The European Commission has reached an agreement with European car makers to cut average carbon dioxide emissions from new cars by 25% by 2008. The deal is based on technical improvements and leaves room for other measures to meet a tougher target sought by EC Environment Ministers.
