Progress on minewater clean-up

Work has begun on a £300,000 scheme to clean up minewater discharges to the Cong Burn in County Durham, a tributary of the river Wear. The scheme will involve pumping waters from the former East Edmondsley Colliery for treatment in a reed bed. The discharge stains the Cong Burn orange for almost a kilometre. The work is being funded by the Coal Authority.
