Birth defect studies stir concern over landfill impacts

New epidemiological studies have prompted concern that babies born close to landfill sites suffer an increased incidence of birth defects. The research has prompted the Government to commission new research, and is likely to open a fresh debate which will focus public attention on landfill practices and their regulation.
