Emissions study finds shortcomings with alternative fuelled vehicles

Vans and buses using compressed natural gas (CNG), liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) or low-sulphur diesel may offer only limited emission improvements over diesel vehicles, according to a study for the Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions. 1 Fuel suppliers argue that the report is now out of date and that newer engine technology gives much clearer benefits. However, the report raises questions over the case for converting existing vehicles to alternative fuels.
