Draft Bill sets ball rolling for Food Standards Agency

The draft of a long-awaited Bill to establish a Food Standards Agency (FSA) was published on 27 January.1 Time may still be found for the Bill in the present parliamentary session, enabling the Agency to be set up next year. The Agency is likely to have an important indirect influence on aspects of environmental policy through its remit to protect the public from hazardous exposures to chemical and radioactive contaminants and genetically modified organisms via food.
