Paper recycling rate edges up

The UK's paper recycling rate edged up from 39.6% in 1997 to 40.5% last year, according to the Pulp and Paper Information Centre. Paper consumption rose from 12.23 to 12.48 million tonnes. Of this, 4.65 million tonnes were consumed by UK mills and 424,000 tonnes of recovered paper were exported. UK mills also consumed 28,500 tonnes of imported waste paper.
