Second crypto outbreak linked to North West Water supply
A major episode of the gastrointestinal illness cryptosporidiosis hit north-west England in May. The outbreak of over 300 cases was strongly linked by circumstantial evidence to North West Water's Thirlmere supply - the second time in two years that the supply has been associated with outbreaks of the disease. The company plans to spend £300 million on improving treatment of the supply over the next five years.
