Perfume industry pushes musk deer towards extinction

Demand from perfume producers for natural musk, obtained from the rare musk deer of central Asia, is pushing the species towards extinction, according to a report by the Worldwide Fund for Nature and the World Conservation Union. 1 Musk pods are obtained by killing the male deer, and in Russia the population has declined by 50% in the last ten years due to hunting.
