Infants face huge dietary exposure to dioxins

A substantial proportion of Europe's population has dietary exposures to dioxins and PCBs in excess of the World Health Organisation's guideline for dietary intakes of the substances, according to a major new study sponsored jointly by the European Commission and the Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions (DETR). 1 The most alarming finding is that intakes of dioxins alone by first-born breast-fed infants exceed the WHO guideline by 27-144 times.
