Waste disposal licensing - DoE shifts policy on insurance and bonding

The use of conditions in waste disposal licences requiring operators to obtain environmental insurance and financial bonding is no longer being opposed by the Department of the Environment (DoE). This major policy development came in the High Court on 26 January when the DoE chose not to defend an appeal by Shropshire County Council against the DoE's earlier decision to strike out licence conditions relating to insurance and bonding.
