Government reconsiders on waste disposal plans

The Government has conceded that its proposal last year to abolish local waste disposal plans once the new Environment Agency is set up would leave an unacceptable gap in forward planning for waste disposal. A new system of regional planning guidance on waste has now been proposed by the Department of the Environment (DoE). The Government also intends to use its new powers to direct waste regulation authorities (WRAs) to prepare the last batch of waste disposal plans pending the Agency's establishment.
