Ministers resist beefing up green provisions in Utilities Bill

Powers to require utilities to supply renewable electricity and meet energy efficiency targets should shortly appear on the statute book as the Utilities Bill continues its progress through the House of Lords. However, Ministers have fought off numerous amendments intended to add further environmental mettle to the regulation of the electricity and gas industries.
