Road hauliers lose argument on fuel and lorry taxation

The road haulage industry has suffered a major reverse in its campaign for reductions in fuel duty and vehicle excise duty (VED). After an inquiry which found very little evidence to support the industry's claims that business is being lost to foreign competition because of high taxation in the UK, the House of Commons Transport Sub-Committee has concluded that road haulage rates should rise - though offering the industry a few palliatives in return. 1
