DTI canvasses support for a softer line on WEEE Directives

Some types of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) should be removed from the proposed WEEE Directive, and separate recycling targets for different categories of equipment might not be needed, according to a consultation by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) issued in August. 1 It also suggests there may be a role for voluntary agreements in implementing some of the provisions - and calls for the proposed bans on cadmium and brominated flame retardants to be removed until risk assessments have been completed.
