Thirteen years late, MAFF proposes EIA for agriculture

Proposals to correct one of the UK's longest breaches of EC law were finally made by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAFF) on 3 May when it issued a consultation paper on applying EC requirements on environmental impact assessment (EIA) to the conversion of uncultivated and semi-natural areas to intensive agriculture.1 But MAFF is still dragging its feet, with action probably at least a year away.
