Carbon Trust's road to a low-carbon future

One of the key questions facing the Government's energy review team is the scope for significant medium-term cuts in the UK's carbon dioxide emissions. Its early conclusions suggest that a reduction of 60% by 2050 - the target proposed last year by the Royal Commission on Environmental Pollution (ENDS Report 305, pp 19-22 ) - could be delivered, but only with a vigorous and sustained policy effort (ENDS Report 321, pp 8-9 ).
