Bisphenol A risk assessment progresses at a snail's pace

The controversial plastics intermediate bisphenol A faces health and environmental testing spanning at least the next two years following decisions taken at a recent EU official meeting. The human health risk assessment is mired in controversy over low-dose effects in mice - while the environmental risk assessment has thrown up effects on reproduction in fish and snails at very low levels.
