Agency facing funding crisis over new duties
A "huge black hole" is appearing in the Environment Agency's funding, its chairman warned in December. The Agency says it will need up to 1,300 extra staff over the next four years to implement new legislation - but it fears that the Treasury will not provide the funds in the current comprehensive spending review.
