Exports and wood recycling boost packaging recovery figures

The Government has confirmed that the UK failed to meet its target to recover 50% of packaging waste by 2001 by two percentage points - as revealed by ENDS in April. Waste exports rose again, with almost half of steel and a quarter of plastics packaging recycling taking place abroad. Much of the overall increase was due to a reported doubling of wood recycling.
