Row over peat delays eco-label criteria for soil improvers

A dispute over a proposal that peat-based soil improvers should not be eligible for an eco-label is damaging the chances that the products will feature in the EC eco-labelling scheme's launch in June. Producers of waste-based peat alternatives have been encouraged by the proposal, and seem set to carry their row with the peat industry into forthcoming discussions on eco-labelling criteria for plant growth media.
