Doubts over IPC as UK opposes EC incinerator rules

The UK is seeking a wide-ranging relaxation of emission standards for incinerators proposed by the European Commission, a parliamentary committee was told by Environment Minister David Maclean in February. The Government's main objections to the limits are that they would be too costly and impracticable to comply with, and have turned the incinerator issue into a bigger question about how far it will be prepared to see technical innovation drive the application of integrated pollution control in Britain before bringing economic considerations into play.
